My name is Hannah and I live in a West Berkshire, UK. I live with my husband and guinea pigs.
When I was little, I always liked soft toys and this hasn't really stopped as an adult. I absolutely love handmade mohair bears, I love the uniqueness and character and I was always astounded that there were people who could somehow make bears out of a flat piece of fabric. I was encouraged by my husband to try myself and found that it was quite good fun. I have now made lots of bears (around 150) and have sold over 100, and have kept around thirty for myself!
The last time I wrote a blog here was before Covid invaded our lives! During covid, I could not attend any fairs and online sales were slow. In 2021, we only went to two fairs, and in 2022 we managed to get the three! Now in 2023, I hope we can get to a few more.
We have changed our name to Midnight Bears. This was the name I had originally planned for my bears, but I decided to go with alliteration instead! However, something came up and I decided a change was needed, so, after four years, I went back to the original plan.
Wow, what a great year! I have now sold most of my bears, with only a couple left. I am very grateful to everyone that has given a bear a new home and can't wait to make some more. Here is a picture from our last craft fair of the year.
We had a lovely day at the market and are looking forward to attending again.
Lots of new bears have been made since Summer, and all are listed in my Etsy shop.
I have been very busy at the day job, so I haven't managed to make as many as I would like, but hopefully I will have the time to make some more soon.
Summer is a quiet time for craft fairs as everyone is on holiday. Last year I took part in the local village show, but this year I wasn't organised enough.
I have started making some Christmas items... some pompom robins! These are stocking filler items and will exclusively be sold in The Meeting Place which is run by my sister. Why not pop in for a coffee and some cake and have a look at all the items on offer?
We moved house in January and that meant that bear making got put onto the back burner. I am now looking to start making again and hopefully new additions will be added to the shop shortly.
Moving always seems like a good idea until you have to pack and unpack. My husband and I are going to try and leave it as long as possible before moving again because it is just so traumatic!
